Powerlifting is a competitive strength sport that involves three main lifts: the squat, bench press, and deadlift. The goal in powerlifting is to lift as much weight as possible in each of these three exercises. Powerlifters compete in weight classes and attempt their heaviest lifts in three separate attempts for each lift, with the highest successful lift in each exercise combined to determine their total.
